The Final Battle

The final battle is the climax and turning point of this story. The movie and the actual book depict this scene slightly different. The book tells of the battle in specific detail while the movie lingers on the exciting aspects of the fight.
The Movie
· The bow was chosen as a weapon because Odysseus was the only one that could string it.
· Only the main maidservant perused the suitors and she was killed with him in the end.
· Telemachus never tries to string the bow during the battle.

· The battle was planned the night before and everything was set and put into place.
· As soon as Odysseus shot the bow he changed from the beggar to himself.

The Story
· The bow was chosen because of the celebration of Apollo the god of archery.
· A dozen of the servants were perusing the suitors.

· Telemachus tries to string the bow and on the fourth time he almost succeeds until his father tells him not to.
· Odysseus plans the attack at the beginning of the battle.
· There is never gives a specific time when he changes form.

This part of the story was the most exciting part to me! In most of the scenes i like the book version better but i think i like the movie part better during this scene. Also, I wonder if Odysseus ever taught his son to string his bow?

It seems a bit much for Odysseus to just kill all of the suitors, but I guess he did have the right since he was the king. I probably would've set the dogs on them, or whipped them and then maybe made them work in chains in the fields for about ten years! Death would've been pretty merciful compared to that!

On second thought, maybe killing them was the best since they were set on killing him and would've tried to the first chance they got - slave or not.

Seeing the movie version was more exciting than reading about this part. I mean a guy shoots and arrow through some holes on some axe handles that were lined up? I wish I could shoot like that! Not to mention he takes out a full room of suitors! ancient Matrix or something..ha

One way to get rid of the suitors was to kill them all. Seems a bit harsh maybe they should have all been sent home after the two ring leaders were killed. Osysseus was very cunning in this part of the story securing them all the the hall with only the help of just a few.

I liked this part the best as well, just because after all that Odysseus had been through he was finally home and his identitiy would soon be revealed.

I like the movie version better for this scene. It was very cool how he could shoot an arrow through 12 axes. Either he is just very talented or he practiced alot. The suitors got what they deserved. They were annoying and only wanted to marry Penelope in order to be king. I would've done the same thing Odysseus did.

I agree with erica and lindsey, the movie was way more exciting an interesting. I thought that the book went to extreme detail, and that was pretty annoying but I guess to make sure the reader got the idea, that was needed.

Robin has a point when she says that Odysseus killed all of the suitors. He might to had to kill all of them so that none of them would try and over throw him when he got back on the throne.
